The icon "Cathedral of the
Saints
Patrons of Hunters and Fishermen" was created in the recent past, more precisely in 2005, under the patronage, at that time, of the great patriarch of the Russian land - Alexy II. The image on this icon is unique in that it depicts all the Saints who patronize hunters and fishermen, and whose images, for a long time and always, our great-grandfathers prayed for help and intercession. This spiritual image - protects all hunters and fishermen in their difficult business, helps them not to freeze in severe frosts, saves them from storms and storms, protects them from drowning in water, directs those lost in the forest on the right path, and always gives a rich catch of fish and good the prey of a wild beast.
The history of this rare icon is as follows. In 2005, His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia blessed its writing. Since September 13, 2006, this special icon has been in the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Sokolniki in Moscow) and anyone who wants to address all the saints at once - the patrons of hunting and fishing, can come to this church, appear before her and pray.
In the upper part of the icon there is a row of miraculous icons of the Mother of God, through which at different times the Queen of Heaven provided her protection to hunters and fishermen and to this day is their Helper and Representative. There are five such icons: if you look from left to right, the first is Tikhvin, then Kazan, Ozeryanskaya, "Sign" and Theodorovskaya icon of the Mother of God.
Under this row of icons of the Most Holy Theotokos, on the left and right below, in prayer intercession to the Savior, are depicted Saints who have a special grace to help everyone who is engaged in hunting and fishing. These are, first of all, St. Nicholas, Archbishop of Myra, the apostle's John the Theologian, Peter and James Zebedee (all of them are depicted on the left side of the icon in the first row). In the second row we see the Monk Nikodim of Kozheezersk, the apostles Andrew the First-Called and Thomas. Closing this group of saints is the righteous Procopius of Ustyug and the Monks Paphnutius Borovsky and Barlaam of Keretsky.
On the right side of the icon in the first row are: the Great martyr Eustathius Placis, the martyr Tryphon, the righteous Simeon of Verkhoturye, and the Holy passion-bearer Tsar Nikolai. The second row of Saints is opened by the blessed Grand Duke Alexander Nevsky, followed by the great martyrs Demetrius of Thessaloniki and George the Victorious. Above are the Equal-to-the-Apostles Grand Duke Vladimir, the Martyr Mercury and the Blessed Prince Dimitry Donskoy.
All of them are patrons of hunters and fishermen. Our ancestors turned to them in prayer before the start of hunting and fishing and in those special and sometimes dangerous situations in which those engaged in these types of activities sometimes find themselves. And the saints came to their aid: they saved them from drowning on water and death in severe frosts, during storms and storms they showed the way to those who lost their way and granted abundant prey.
